Frank McCourt
The namesake of the IAW&A’s Literary Prize:
The incomparable Frank McCourt

In October 2009, the New York City Department of Education, along with several community partners, founded the Frank McCourt High School of Writing, Journalism and Literature, a screened-admissions public high school on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.

Irish American Writers & Artists, in partnership with teachers and administrators of Frank McCourt High School, have created a monetary gift in Frank’s memory to be awarded annually to a graduating senior who demonstrates an out- standing potential to be a writer.

The Frank McCourt Literary Prize was created to raise money in Frank’s name to fund an award for an exceptional student writer who attends the public high school that bears his name.

In honor of the life of Frank McCourt and to continue his legacy, Irish American Writers & Artists and FMHS faculty will present an annual monetary prize to a graduating senior at a celebratory event each June.

IAW&A needs your help to make our commemorative gift a worthy tribute to Frank’s legacy! Help us inspire young students to pursue a writing career by donating to the Frank McCourt Literary Prize.
